Recycled silver & gold
Mining new gold and silver is extremely harmful, both to the environment and to workers.
That is why we work with recycled and conflict-free precious metals. 95% of the silver and gold we use is recycled from old jewellery or purchased from a metal refinery in Belgium that specializes in recycling precious metals and is recognized by the Responsible Jewellery Council (RJC), the leading standards authority in the global jewellery industry.
Recycled silver
We use sterling (925) silver. This means 92.5% is pure silver. The remaining 7.5% is copper. This is necessary to strengthen the silver, as it would otherwise be too soft to be used in jewellery.
Almost all the components of our jewellery are made from recycled silver, but because we are a small studio, we still have to purchase some small parts (such as clasps) from larger suppliers. For these small parts, they cannot guarantee 100% that they are fully recycled.
This is an important issue for us, and one we hope to address in the future.
Recycled gold
We use 14K and 18K gold, the two most common gold alloys. The number refers to amount of gold. Pure gold (24K) cannot be used for jewellery because it is too soft for that purpose.
14K gold means that the alloy consists of 58.5% pure gold.
18K gold means that the alloy is 75% pure gold.
As with our recycled silver, we are sometimes required to source small components from external suppliers. We offer three gold colours: yellow gold, rose gold, and white gold.
