How to best care for your rings and jewellery

Congratulations and thank you for investing in one of our handmade pieces of jewelry!
To ensure your jewelry lasts a long time, we’ve put together this guide with tips and tricks for protecting and caring for your jewelry.

1. For each type of jewelry (gold or silver)

Physical activities

Do not wear jewelry during strenuous activities such as weightlifting, gardening, or exercising. Although minor scratches are normal from everyday wear, hard surfaces and vigorous movement can cause deep scratches or dents.

Water

Take off your jewelry before swimming, showering, or washing your hands. Water—especially chlorinated or saltwater—can corrode metals and cause the finish to become dull.

Chemicals

Do not wear jewelry while cleaning or applying lotions, perfumes, or hair products, as chemicals can cause discoloration. Wait until lotions and perfumes have been fully absorbed before putting on your jewelry.

Sleeping

Wearing rings or jewelry while sleeping can cause them to bend or become damaged. Remove them before going to bed to prevent unnecessary wear and tear and extend the life of your jewelry.

Store safely

Store jewelry in its original box or pouch when you're not wearing it. This prevents discoloration, limits exposure to dust and moisture, and keeps pieces from scratching each other.

2. Additionally, for jewelry with diamonds or gemstones

Wearing rings together

Do not wear rings with diamonds or gemstones in prong or side settings together with other rings, as this can cause the metal to wear down and the stones to come loose.

Sleeping

Do not wear jewelry with gemstones while sleeping. Bed sheets act like sandpaper on the settings—the metal parts that hold the gemstone in place. This can cause the metal to wear down and become more prone to bending, eventually causing it to no longer hold the gemstone securely.

Regular self-monitoring

Check your jewelry every few weeks to see if any stones are loose. Gently press on the stone with your fingernail or a soft cloth to see if there is any movement or sound. If you notice anything, stop wearing the piece and bring it to our studio for inspection and repair.

Annual Professional Inspection

We recommend having jewelry with diamonds or gemstones—especially rings—inspected by us once a year. This ensures that the stones remain securely in place, and a thorough cleaning will restore their original luster.
